"WOLVERINE" TO THE TUNE OF "MAYBELLINE" AS SUNG BY CHUCK BERRY
    "Wolverine"
To The Tune Of "Maybelline" As Sung By Chuck Berry

Wolverine, why can't you be true?
Oh Wolverine, why can't you be true?
You've done stopped doing the things you used to do

As I was motivatin' over the hill
I saw Wolverine in a group de ville
A Wendigo a-rollin' on the open road
Nothin' will outrun a big green Hulk
    The Wendigo doin' 'bout ninety-five
His temper distemper growlin' side by side

Wolverine, why can't you be true?
Oh Wolverine, why can't you be true?
You've done stopped doing the things you used to do

The Wendigo pulled up ahead of the Hulk
The Hulk got shot and wouldn't do no more
It then got cloudy and it started to rain
I got on the horn for a passin' lead
The rain water blowin' all under my hood
I knew that was doin' my Logan good

Wolverine, why can't you be true?
Oh Wolverine, why can't you be true?
You've done stopped doing the things you used to do

Wolverine, why can't you be true?
Oh Wolverine, why can't you be true?
You've done stopped doing the things you used to do

Then Logan cooled down, the Hulk went down
And that's when I heard that faraway sound
The Wendigo a-sittin' like a ton of lead
A hundred and ten a half a mile ahead
The Wendigo lookin' like it's sittin' still
And I caught Wolverine at the top of the hill

Wolverine, why can't you be true?
Oh Wolverine, why can't you be true?
You've done stopped doing the things you used to do

"SHOWS OVER KRYPTONIANS" TO THE TUNE OF "ROLL OVER BEETHOVEN" AS SUNG BY CHUCK BERRY
    "Show's Over Kryptonians"
To The Tune Of "Roll Over Beethoven" As Sung By Chuck Berry

I'm gonna write a little better,
Gonna mail it to my little Kal-El.
    It's a rocket written record
I want my Kal-El to play.
Show's over Kryptonians, I gotta fear it again today.

    You know, the temperature's risin
And the few blocks blowin her fuse
    My son's leavin' Krypton
And my goal keeps on singin the blues.
Show's over Kryptonians and tell General Zod the news.

I got the rocket new for ya,
I need a shot from Krypton or lose.
I think I'm rollin all right this
Sittin down by the Krypton review.
Show's over Kryptonians, rocket's gone two by two.

Well, if you feel you like it
Go get your cover, then reel and rocket.
Run for cover and move on up just
A trifle further and reel and rocket,
    Run for cover,
Show's over Kryptonians, rocket's gone two by two.

Well, early in the mornin I'm a-givin you the warnin
Don't you step on my new babe's shoes.
Hey diddle diddle, I am playin my fiddle,
    Ain't got nothin to lose.
Show's over Kryptonians and tell General Zod the news.

You know she wiggles like a slow worm,
    Chance like a spinnin drop.
    He's got a crazy father,
Oughta see them real Green Rocks.
Long as he's got the time, the musings will never stop.

    Show's over Kryptonians,
    Show's over Kryptonians,
    Show's over Kryptonians,
    Show's over Kryptonians,
Show's over Kryptonian and dig these Kryptonian blues.

JUST GOT BACK FROM SAN JOSE SUPER-CON
Just got back from Super-Con 2009 in San Jose.

Buzz was kind enough to sign JSA #12 and #22.

Ernie Chan was kind enough to sign Conan the Barbarian #117: "In The Lair Of Mullah-Kajar!"

Mick Gray was kind enough to sign Justice Society Of America #18 and Justice League of America: Kingdom Come

    Special: The Kingdom #1.

Pablo Marcos was kind enough to sign Infinity Inc. #39: "The Saga of Solomon Grundy!", Avengers #161: "Attacked By

    The Ant-Man!", The Mighty Thor #252 - #253.

I picked up a couple of prints featuring Simon Garth the Zombie from Mr. Marcos.

Steve Leialoha was kind enough to sign Captain America #221.

Both Ernie Chan and Pablo Marcos signed The Secret Society of Super-Villains #1 and The Avengers #166. In both

cases, Ernie would do the cover and Pablo would do the interior art.

Alex Nino signed my copy of Welcome Back To The House Of Mystery.

Joe Rubinstein was kind enough to sign The Incredible Hulk #225 and Marvel Two In One Annual #2: "To Duel A Mad

God!" The artist mentioned to me that the Peter Parker head on the splash page of MTIO was redrawn by John Romita

    Sr.

I was glad to chat with:

Renee Witterstaetter, former Marvel Editor, and current agent for Michael Golden. I think she was surprised that I

was more interested in her past Editorial work than getting in line for Michael.

Rich Koslowski, creator of the 3 Geeks. I was delighted to see him at the con and catch up on his current work.

Bruce Dern, actor. The first time I remember seeing Mr. Dern onscreen was in Alfred Hitchcock's Family Plot.

He was kind enough to share what it was like in the early days of his career, guest-starring on various shows of the

1960s, including "The Big Valley," "Gunsmoke," "The Fugitive," and "The Outer Limits".

"The Zantee Misfits" was a favorite of mine, I admitted that the alien bugs scared me so much, that I kept my feet

off the ground while watching this particular Outer Limits.

Mr. Dern mentioned that the misfits had batteries in them, and they did creep him out during filming.

Location filming for "The Zanti Misfits" was shot where Star Trek would later shoot "Arena" and "Shore Leave".

Although Tony DeZuniga could not attend because of the flu, his wife was there, and she was glad to see me. I

picked up color prints of Conan the Barbarian, Supergirl, and Spider-Woman. Mrs. DeZuniga said that I could bring

these to the next Wondercon, and have her husband sign them for me. Get well soon, Mr. DeZuniga!

As another attendee put it, the main reason I was looking forward to Super-Con was to meet John Wesley Shipp.

Prior to the CBS TV series, my previous exposure to the character was in the Super Friends cartoon, and a few 1970s

comic book. He was the character who could run fast.

Although it ran for only one season, suffered from numerous pre-emptions by CBS in favor of NCAA Basketball, and was

unceremoniously shuffled off to air unannounced after Saturday Afternoon Golf, I loved The Flash TV Series.

What would happen if a police scientist got zapped by lightning and chemicals in 1990?

We saw Barry Allen learning to overcome the shock of his new powers and turning them into a force for good.

During the season, viewers saw the relationship between Barry and Tina grow, and also witnessed some fine acting

from John Wesley Shipp and Amanda Pays. Nary a false note between the Star Labs scientist and her patient.

Comic book fans got to see new versions of Captain Cold, the Trickster, and the Mirror Master, as portrayed by

Michael Champion, Mark Hamill, and David Cassidy.

We also got a few giveaway Easter Eggs in the form of throwaways mentioning: "Gorilla Grodd," "Carter Hall," "Hotel

    Infantino,"and "Police Chief Julius Schwartz".

I was very happy to meet the actor who brought this version of the Scarlet Speedster to life on the TV screen and

can only hope that current genre shows such as "Smallville" and "The Big Bang Theory" will consider featuring Mr.

    Shipp as a guest-star.

The actor was kind enough to share some behind-the-scenes stories about the series, including: what his stuntman

went through while shooting the water tank scene in "The Trickster" episode, what it was like to wear a hot costume,

and rearrange his scene shooting schedule to better budget his time.

Even after The Flash TV series ended, and he made appearances on "All My Children," NYPD Blue," and "Dawson's

Creek," most folks stil remember him primarily for The Flash. The actor made the police scientist and the Scarlet

Speedster so darned likable (no mean feat.)

Here's hoping that in the age of Blu-Ray, we'll get a special edition of The Flash TV Series, and some special

features along the lines of interviews with the actors, producers, and writers of the series.

Hey, Warner Bros., I got the DVD set, but I'd definitely put my wallet where my mouth is for a dream package like

    this!

Among the 50 cents/1 dollar comics I picked up at Super-Con:

    All-Star Squadron Annual #2

    Bat Lash #7

DC Super-Stars Presents Secret Society Of Super-Villains #14.

    Amazing Adventures #23 and #33

Conan The Barbarian #37: "Curse Of The Golden Skull!"

Dead Of Night #7: "What Lurks On The Thirteenth Floor?"

Ghost Rider #6: "The Menace Of The Second Zodiac!"

The Incredible Hulk #179: "Once More -- The Missing Link!"

The Incredible Hulk #193: "The Doctor's name Is Samson!"

    Marvel Team-Up #37: "Murder Means The Man-Wolf!"

What If #13: "What If Conan The Barbarian Walked The Earth Today?" Having found this particular issue, I asked

Ernie Chan to sign it for me. He paused to savor the art from thirty years ago.

What If #15: "What If Nova Had Been Four Other People?"

From The Front Page Of The PULSE 05/08/09

    By Jennifer M. Contino

Don Kramer only drew a portion of this week's Batman: Battle for the Cowl The Network, because time crunches prevented him from doing more. Kramer told THE PULSE, "Over the holidays, I fell behind on the last Nightwing issue which threw all the plans for me on Battle for the Cowl and Oracle out of whack. It was like a domino effect." The artist talks candidly with us about juggling projects, working on only a portion of an issue and more in the first of a two-part interview ....

The Tony Award winning Victor Garber talks about playing one of the biggest thorns in Green Lantern's side, Sinestro. Garber voices the villain in the upcoming Green Lantern: First Flight. Garber said, "This is very different from anything I've done on television or even on stage. But my job as an actor is to imbue it with some sort of authenticity and truth – to make it believable. I didn’t pull anything for Sinestro from any specific character I’ve played in the past. They're all different."

A man who forged a check to get a copy of Amazing Spider-Man # 2 from Graham Cracker Comics was sentenced to seven years in prison.

After novelist Scott Snyder wrote The 13th Egg, a WWII story about a man who acquires strange abilities after the Bikini Island bomb tests, he was asked by Marvel Comics to pitch a few ideas for their characters. After a pitch that examined some supporting Marvel players, the House of Ideas asked the scribe if he might be interested in taking on the Golden Age Human Torch. Snyder said he "jumped" at the chance to take on this icon in the pages of Marvel's 70th Anniversary Special The Human Torch Comics. Snyder told THE PULSE, "I'm fascinated by this idea that he's a robot beneath the human skin, like some kind of android Frankenstein."

When Scott Cohn mentioned he wanted to draw a werewolf, it didn't take scribe Mike Raicht long to fit one into the latest Army Of Darkness saga. Cohn's having a great time drawing this creature of the night and pitting it against Ash. But that's just one of the reasons Cohn's spending time with the Chosen One. He told THE PULSE this latest arc sees Ash travel seven continents and meet more members of the mysterious League of Light. Cohn teased, "Of course, it takes a pretty big crisis for them to team up. What that crisis is, is something we are going to be exploring in the next six issues or so."

It's almost Mother's Day and thinking about the qualities I admire the most in my own mother, Peggy, made me think about some of the factors that made each of the following women the top five superhero related comic book mother figures in my opinion. Find out if any of your favorites made the my top five, and feel free to add others who you think should have at least been in the running.

Ah, look at all the super people
Ah, look at all the super people

The Deadly Female, puts out the light
in the lurch where the bleeding has been
    Lives in a dream
Waits at the window, bearing the face
that she keeps in a jar by the door
    Who is it for?

    All the super people
Where do they all come from?
    All the super people
    Where do they all belong?

Look at the Frenchman, fighting their words
of a certain that no one will hear
    No one comes near
Look at him smirking, darning his socks
in the fight when there's nobody there
    What does he care

    All the super people
Where do they all come from?
    All the super people
    Where do they all belong?

Ah, look at all the super people
Ah, look at all the super people

Billy the husband, cried in the church
and was buried along with her name
    Nobody came
Billy the Butcher, wiping the dirt
from his hands as he walks from her grave
    No one is safe

    All the super people
Where do they all come from?
    All the super people
    Where do they all belong?

"EVERYBODY LOATHES A CLONE" TO THE TUNE OF "EVERYBODY LOVES A CLOWN" BY GARY LEWIS AND THE PLAYBOYS
    "Everybody Loathes A Clone"
To The Tune Of "Everybody Loves A Clown" As Sung By Gary Lewis and the Playboys

Everybody loathes a clone, so why don’t you?
Everybody gasps at the things that I say and do.
They all gasp when they say me coming,
But you don’t gasp; you just go home running.

Everybody loathes a clone, so why can’t you?
    A clone has feelings too.

I poke around at apartments when you aren't there.
But you don’t gasp, you don’t look; you just don’t dare.
If you wondered why this clone is crying, look a little closer; inside I’m dying.
It’s not easy, you see when you’re a clone like me.

I don’t know how to say that I love you,
‘cause you would smile and say “it's a joke or two.”
Yes, I’m a clone, but I don’t want to be.
Why can’t you see the other one's not me?

Guess I’ll be the one who plays the part
Of a clone with a broken heart.

Screaming at your love, and not knowing where to start.
Screaming at your love, and not knowing where to start.
Screaming at your love, and not knowing where to start.
Screaming at your love, and not knowing where to start

"PHANTOM ZONE" TO THE TUNE OF "TAINTED LOVE" BY SOFT CELL
    "Phantom Zone"
To The Tune Of "Tainted Love" By Soft Cell

Sometimes I reel I've got to
    Gone away, I've got to
Fade away from the pain you drive into
    The heart of me
    The Zone we share
    Seems to go nowhere
    And I've lost my life
    For I toss and turn
    I can't sleep at night

    Once I ran to you
    Now I run through you
    This Phantom Zone, this prison
I gave you all a boy could give you
Take my years and that's not nearly all

    Phantom Zone
    Phantom Zone

Sometimes I reel I've got to
    Gone away, I've got to
Fade away, 'cause you don't really want
    Any more from me
    To make things right
    You need someone
    To hold you tight
And you think Zone is to stay
But I'm sorry, I don't stay that way

    Once I ran to you
    Now I run through you
    This Phantom Zone, this prison
I gave you all a boy could give you
Take my years and that's not nearly all

    Phantom Zone
    Phantom Zone
    Can't touch me please
I cannot stand the way you cease
Babe I love you though you hurt me so
Now I'm gonna pass through things and go

    Phantom Zone
    Phantom Zone
    Phantom Zone
    Phantom Zone

    Touch me maybe
    Phantom Zone
    Touch me maybe
    Phantom Zone

    Phantom Zone
    Phantom Zone
    Phantom Zone

"THE MIND OF SIMON" TO THE TUNE OF "THE SOUND OF SILENCE" AS SUNG BY SIMON AND GARFUNKEL
    "The Mind Of Simon"
To The Tune Of "The Sound Of Silence" As Sung by Simon and Garfunkel

    Hello Ultron, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
    Because the Vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the Vision that was planted with my brain
    Still remains
    Given the mind of Simon.

In restless schemes I soared alone
    Narrow feats from my tombstone,
neath the salvo of a sweet vamp,
I turned my power to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of
    A new insight
    That split the night
And touched the mind of Simon.

And in the naked light I saw
    The Mighty Avengers, maybe more.
    Avengers talking without speaking,
    Avengers hearing without listening,
Avengers righting wrongs that others never dare
    And no one dared
    Disturb the mind of Simon.

Pym said 5,you do not know
    Simon like an answer grows.
Heed my words that I might teach you,
Take up arms that I might reach you.
But Pym's words like silent anthills fell,
    And echoed
    In the will of Simon

And the Avengers bowed and praised
    To the Synthezoid they bade.
And Ultron flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And Ultron said, the words Simon Williams
Are written on the pathway walls
    And testament calls.
And whisperd in the mind of Simon.

"HEY TOM!" TO THE TUNE OF "HEY JUDE" BY LENNON AND MCCARTNEY
    "Hey Tom!"
To The Tune Of "Hey Jude" By Lennon and McCartney
Hey Tom, dont take it bad.
Take a sad font and make it better.
Remember to letter into the art,
Then you can start to make it better.

    Hey Tom, don't be afraid.
You were made to go out and letter.
The minute there's letters under your skin,
Then you begin to make it better.

And anytime you feel the strain, hey Tom, refrain,
Dont carry the world upon your shoulders.
For well you know that it's a fool who blames his tool
By making his world a little bolder.

Hey Tom, dont let me down.
You have found her, now go and letter.
Remember to letter into the art,
Then you can start to make it better.

So letter out and letter in, hey Tom, begin,
You're working with someone named Jim Starlin.
And dont you know that its just you, hey Tom, you'll do,
The deadline you see is on your shoulder.

Hey Tom, dont make it bad.
Take a sad font and make it better.
Remember there's letters under your skin,
Then youll begin to make it
Better better better better better better, Orz..

Or, Ze, Cho, Ski, hey Tom...
